Eric Metaxas is the New York Times #1 bestselling author of BonhoefferMiraclesSeven Men, and Amazing Grace. He has written more than 30 children’s books; his essays and poetry has appeared in The New Yorker magazine and elsewhere. In 2012, Eric was invited to be the keynote speaker at the National Prayer Breakfast, attended by President Obama, the Vice President, members of Congress, and other U.S. and world leaders.

I can still remember standing in a hotel room on Bismarck, ND, adjusting my tie and going over notes in my head for my talk at a radio gala dinner for the Real Presence Radio network. I had C-SPAN on in the background. Glancing over at the screen, I noticed a familiar face: Eric Metaxas, biographer, essayist, and purveyor of tweedy (often very funny) wisdom. There he was, bedecked in pin-striped splendor, regaling Barack Obama, the First Lady, and a large crowd of “politerati” with some serious raconteur chops. I quickly got over my twinge of jealousy (plum gig!) because, as Eric distilled the too-little-known true story of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the Lutheran pastor who was hanged by the Nazis at dawn on April 9, 1945, I felt I was witnessing a prophet delivering a divinity-haunted message to the powerful of this world. Riveting.

Bearing as he does a sense of wit, logic--and, with his Socrates in the City interview series, sartorial panache—Eric Metaxas is, to my mind, a model of how to see and engage the surrounding culture with a Christian lens. I hope you check out his nationally syndicated radio show, the Eric Metaxas Show, and I know you’ll enjoy my interview with him on Catholic Answers Focus about his new book Seven Women and the Secret of Their Greatness. He also got my obscure Mel Blanc allusion.
